It may be his debut in the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour, but Victor Weyrich showed he will be a force by heading a French drivers’ 1-2-3 in the first free practice session at Circuit Paul Ricard.
Weyrich, who has been racing his Herrero Racing CUPRA Leon VZ in TCR Europe this season, set his 1:31.941 with 12 of the 30 minutes remaining to displace Aurélien Comte’s SP Compétition CUPRA from the top of the times. Comte ended up second fastest ahead of the Geely Cyan Racing Geely Preface of Yann Ehrlacher.
There were very few improvements in the final 10 minutes of running at a very hot Paul Ricard, and Ma Qing Hua was one of them, the Chinese moving his Geely Cyan Racing machine up to fourth place.
Mikel Azcona had set the pace early on but his BRC Hyundai Elantra N EV did not go any quicker. The Spaniard finished fifth ahead of Teddy Clairet’s Team Clairet Sport CUPRA.
Geely Cyan Racing’s Valencia triple winner Santiago Urrutia was seventh ahead of Jenson Brickley, Norbert Michelisz and Damiano Reduzzi.
