Yann Ehrlacher thinks a Macau victory will be tough after the pace shown by the BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse team in practice, but the Frenchman’s full focus will be on securing his third world title, after leading his teammate and championship rival Thed Björk in practice.
Ehrlacher was second fastest in both sessions, behind Mikel Azcona in FP1 and then chasing Norbert Michelisz in the red-flagged FP2, while teammate and title rival Björk was seventh quickest in the two sessions.
“It’s nice to see when you have pace as when you come here you never know. For me, it’s all about how much risk I take, whether I want to take a lot or less. Yes, I touched the wall a few times, but that’s my way of driving, that’s what makes me feel the most comfortable. I still want to have a good result here in Macau, but the focus is the championship,” he said. “To fight for the win is going to be a bit tough I think, as the Hyundai cars are really quick and even if we put a good lap together, we’re still about four-tenths off, so I think it might be difficult to get the win, but my aim is the podium.”
